Evergreen Trees

These are trees that have leaves that persist all year round. Leaf persistence in evergreens may vary from only a few months (with new leaves constantly being grown and old ones shed) up to some years (2-5 years). There are many different types of evergreens found in Nebraska and can be trees or shrubs. Several evergreens in found in Nebraska are used as wind breaks or shelter belts to reduce wind soil erosion or provide protection to livestock and/or properties. The common evergreen tree genres encountered are Firs, Junipers, Spruce and Pine with several different species in each group.
